Comsight is pleased to announce the successful delivery of a high-brightness IP66 outdoor LED display built for extreme desert conditions.
Combining 10,000 cd/m² visibility, thermal-optimized cabinet design, and hybrid solar power, the project delivered stable outdoor performance and received strong recognition from the customer.
Project Context
As a long-term partner, one of our overseas customers once again chose Comsight for a challenging outdoor LED display project in a city in the Middle East.
The installation site is located in a typical hot desert climate, where summer temperatures frequently exceed 50°C. Combined with intense sunlight, blowing sand, airborne dust, and occasional power instability, the environment presents significant challenges for outdoor electronic equipment.
Under prolonged direct sun exposure, the temperature inside an LED display enclosure can rise far above the ambient temperature, making thermal management a critical design consideration.
From the outset, the customer emphasized that the project required more than just a bright display. The solution needed to deliver high brightness, low power consumption, excellent heat resistance, reliable outdoor protection, and long-term operational stability in one of the world’s most demanding environments.
The project also reflects the demanding conditions often faced by outdoor LED sign applications exposed to heat, dust, and direct sunlight.
Technical Challenges and Requirements
For outdoor digital signage displays, high brightness alone is not enough when heat, dust, thermal stress, and power stability all affect long-term performance.
1. Ultra-High Brightness with Low Power Consumption
The display needed to deliver approximately 10,000 cd/m² brightness to maintain clear visibility under strong sunlight.
At the same time, the customer wanted to reduce power consumption as much as possible, since excessive power use would increase internal heat and affect long-term reliability.
2. Extreme Heat and Dust Resistance
The installation environment required the LED display to withstand high ambient temperatures, strong solar radiation, sand, and dust.
In desert conditions, the internal temperature of the display cabinet can reach much higher levels than the surrounding air, requiring careful cabinet, component, and cooling system design.
3. Unstable Power Supply
The local power supply conditions also needed to be considered.
To improve operational flexibility, the customer required a solution that could support both standard AC power and solar power integration, helping reduce dependence on the utility grid while supporting stable outdoor operation.
Comsight Solution
To meet the customer’s requirements for brightness, heat resistance, outdoor protection, and power stability, Comsight developed a custom electronic message center signs solution designed for continuous operation in a harsh desert environment.

The solution focused on three key areas: reducing power consumption while maintaining strong visibility, improving cabinet-level thermal performance, and supporting more flexible power supply options for outdoor operation.
1. High-Brightness, Energy-Efficient LED Technology
Comsight selected high-efficiency 4535 triple-lens LEDs, delivering approximately 10,000 cd/m² brightness while helping reduce power consumption compared with conventional high-brightness solutions.
Lower power consumption also means less internal heat generation, helping improve long-term reliability in high-temperature environments.
2. Advanced Thermal-Optimized IP66 Cabinet Design
To withstand the harsh desert climate, Comsight developed a dual-layer aluminum cabinet with an IP66 protection rating.
The cabinet integrates waterproof cooling fans to enhance ventilation and heat dissipation while helping prevent dust and moisture ingress.
In addition, the cabinet is finished in light gray, reducing solar heat absorption compared with conventional dark-colored enclosures and helping maintain a lower internal operating temperature during continuous sun exposure.

3. High-Reliability Power System with Solar Integration
The display is equipped with high-efficiency power supplies featuring dedicated aluminum heat sinks, ensuring stable operation under elevated temperatures.
Besides the standard 220 VAC power supply, each display line is equipped with a high-efficiency solar inverter. When sufficient electricity is generated by the customer’s solar panels, the system automatically switches to solar power, reducing dependence on the utility grid while supporting stable and energy-efficient operation.
This hybrid power architecture provides greater energy flexibility while supporting sustainable operation in remote outdoor environments.

Engineering Optimization Through Close Collaboration
This project was shaped by close technical collaboration between the customer’s engineering team and Comsight throughout the solution development process.
During the initial planning stage, the proposed solution featured a P8 display with conventional lens LEDs. While this configuration easily met the brightness requirement, the customer raised concerns about its relatively high power consumption and the additional heat it would generate under extreme desert conditions.
Rather than simply increasing brightness or recommending the highest specification, Comsight’s engineers carefully evaluated multiple factors, including display performance, power efficiency, thermal management, operating environment, and long-term reliability.
After several rounds of technical discussions, both teams agreed on a more optimized solution: a P16 display using high-efficiency 4535 triple-lens LEDs. This configuration maintained the required 10,000 cd/m² brightness while helping reduce power consumption and internal heat generation, making it better suited for continuous operation in the customer’s application.
This collaborative engineering process ensured that the final solution was not only technically capable but also optimized for real-world operating conditions.
A similar engineering mindset can also be seen in Comsight’s industrial LED display case study, where brightness, power consumption, thermal performance, and long-term reliability were balanced for another demanding application.
Project Results
The project was successfully completed and commissioned on schedule.
The LED display delivers strong visibility under intense sunlight while maintaining stable performance in one of the most challenging outdoor environments. Its optimized LED configuration, advanced thermal management, IP66 aluminum cabinet, and hybrid power architecture work together to provide high brightness, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability.
For similar high-visibility advertising or public information projects, outdoor digital billboard systems often require the same balance of brightness, thermal design, cabinet protection, and power stability.
The customer expressed high satisfaction with the final solution, especially with Comsight’s ability to balance brightness, power consumption, heat resistance, and outdoor protection in one integrated design.
More importantly, this project demonstrates that reliable outdoor LED display performance in extreme climates does not come from one single specification. Instead, it comes from careful engineering decisions across LED selection, cabinet design, cooling structure, power supply, and system integration.
Why the Customer Chose Comsight?
For demanding outdoor projects, selecting the right led display manufacturer is about more than manufacturing capability. It is about engineering expertise.
Rather than recommending a standard product, Comsight worked with the customer to evaluate the actual application environment and optimize the solution according to brightness, heat, power, protection, and long-term stability requirements.
This project reflects Comsight’s engineering philosophy: the best LED display solution is not necessarily the one with the highest specifications, but the one engineered specifically for the application.
Whether facing extreme temperatures, harsh weather, or unique installation requirements, Comsight continues to deliver customized LED display solutions that combine performance, reliability, and long-term value for customers around the world.
